Activate your computer account

UNSW Global computer account

A computer account will be set up for you to access our online resources, both prior to your arrival to campus and during your course.

This account will be available from up to 10 days prior to your course start date.

When your account has been created you should receive an email notifying you that it is ready to activate. Then just follow the instructions given here to activate and use your computer account. However you do not NEED the email, so if you do not receive one (perhaps we got your address wrong), then 10 days or less before your course starts simply follow these instructions anyway, to activate your account.

Activating your computer account will also enable you to access the "IT Induction" materials prior to your arrival, saving you having to do a full IT Induction on Day 1.

Activate your account

What you need to know

  • Your G-ID, found in your Confirmation of Enrolment (COE), is your computer account "user name"
  • Your password is based on your date of birth. It starts with Unsw(capital "U", lowercase "nsw"), then followed by your date of birth in the format yyyymmdd (year, month, day). For example someone born on the 25th of March 1992 would use Unsw19920325)

What you need to do

  • Go to the account activation page
  • Optional: If you wish, click on the "English" link at the top of the page to change the language
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your account and password

What you can do after that

  • You can go to the "my.unswglobal" page to access online resources, reset your account password, etc. For full details, do your IT Induction first.

Do the IT Induction

Once you have completed the account activation as above you can then do the IT Induction online. Going through this information now will save you from having to do a full IT Induction session when you arrive.

  • Go to THIS logon page
  • Log on with your G-ID account and password (as activated above)
  • THEN click THIS LINK and click the “Enrol me” button found on that page
  • Follow the online instructions to complete the induction

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is my account "user name"?

Full details are found on the "Instructions" page here and in the "IT induction" available online, but your account user name is your student G-ID which you can find on your Confirmation of Enrolment documentation that you will have received upon enrolling in your course.

What is my account password?

As explained on the "Instructions" page here, your default password is based on your date of birth (DOB). Once you have activated your account you will set your own password.

  • The default password starts with “Unsw” (note the large, capital “U” and the small, lowercase “nsw”) followed by your date of birth in the format YYYYMMDD (year-month-day).
  • This means you must first enter the full ( 4 digits) year of your birth (e.g. "1993"),
  • followed by two digits for the month (for January to September add a “0” first – e.g. “01” for January, or “06” for June, or “09” for September, “12” for December. etc.),
  • and then followed by another two digits for the day (again for dates 1 to 9, add a “0” first, e.g. “01” for the 1st, “05” for the 5th, “14” for the 14th, “29” for the 29th, etc.).
  • For example someone born on the 25th of March 1992 would use Unsw19920325, someone born on the 30th of January 1973 would use Unsw19730130. etc.

It doesn't work, I can't activate my account! What do I do?

If you cannot activate your account or have any troubles with the process or the online IT Induction please wait until you arrive and on Day 1 you will get personal help during an IT Induction session and we will fix this for you then. Do not worry, you will not miss out on anything because of this - we will fix it for you on Day 1.
