Peat Workshops

PEAT Workshops are designed to help overseas trained teachers prepare for the Professional English Assessment for Teachers (PEAT), and in doing so progress towards employment as teachers within NSW Department of Education and Communities schools. There are four skills based PEAT workshops - reading, listening, writing and speaking. The workshops are primarily orientation to the test and test preparation strategies. The workshops are not designed to improve language proficiency.

  • The workshops are specifically designed for students who are registered to sit the PEAT test.  Registration for PEAT requires prior approval from the Teacher Recruitment Unit at NSW DEC.
  • PEAT workshop participants should have an advanced level of English.
  • Each workshop focuses on PEAT skills and strategies rather than language development and includes information about the content of the PEAT, skills and strategies for the PEAT, and timed test practice.
  • The four skills based PEAT workshops focus on each of the test components: reading, listening, writing and speaking.

Please note that applications must be made separately for each module, i.e. in order to study Listening, Writing, Speaking and Reading modules together, four separate applications are required.

Workshops are normally held on Saturday mornings between 9.00am - 1.30pm at the Blockhouse (G6) on the UNSW Main Campus. The classroom will be signposted near the entrance of the Blockhouse.

Each workshop will contain timed PEAT Test practice and you will receive feedback on your performance.
