Pronunciation and Clear Speaking is a part time course designed to help you improve your pronunciation of the English language. By focusing specifically on how you produce spoken English, you will develop a clearer speaking voice and be able to communicate more effectively - whether in a social setting or a professional environment.

Students are asked to bring an audio-recording device to class.

If you are currently on a Student Visa, you are only eligible to enrol in CRICOS registered courses.
All others (including international students on other visas) can enrol in non-CRICOS registered courses, such as Modern Language courses and Part-time English courses. Please contact admissions@unswglobal.unsw.edu.au or call 9385 0555 if you require further information.

This course is suitable for domestic students and for international students on a student visa, as a supplementary course in addition to their fulltime program.

  • You should have an intermediate to advanced level of English.
  • Recommended minimum entry requirement of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent.

Areas covered will include:

  • Diagnosis of your specific areas of need with pronunciation.
  • Strategies to overcome particular difficulties with spoken communication.
  • Word stress
  • Sentence stress and rhythm
  • Strategies for pronouncing difficult or unfamiliar words and sounds.
  • Pausing and intonation patterns
  • Listening to Australian spoken English
  • The International Phonetic Alphabet

Course content will be adjusted by the teacher to meet the specific needs of each class.

There may be times when students are required to record themselves speaking, so it is recommended that you familiarise yourself with the audio-recording function on your mobile phones before class.

UNSW staff and full-time UNSW students are eligible for a discount of 25% off the full course fee.

  • Your progress is continuously monitored by your course teacher and regular feedback is provided.
