Ielts Result

IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is designed to assess the language ability of candidates who want to study or work where English is the language of communication. The test was taken by 2 million candidates in the last 12 months in 135 countries. IELTS test scores are trusted and recognised by over 9,000 organisations worldwide, including universities, employers, professional bodies, immigration authorities and other government agencies. UNSW Institute of Languages is an approved IELTS testing centre.

IELTS is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge English Language Assessment through more than 900 test centres.

  • You can book and pay for your test online from the convenience of your home, work or place of study.
  • Tests are held regularly on Saturdays and some tests are held on Thursdays.
  • The Listening, Reading and Writing tests are all taken on the same day.
  • The Speaking test will usually take place on the same day as the other test papers.
  • The IELTS test fee is AUD$330 (AUD$363 if a GST payment is required).
    • IELTS has a set fee for its test.  Each test centre in Australia charges the same amount.
    • The Academic (AC) and General Training (GT) tests have the same test fee.
  • The registration time on test day for all IELTS Tests is 8.00 am. If you need to have your photo and fingerprint taken, please arrive at 7:30am.
  • You must register and pay your IELTS test fee online. Hardcopy forms will no longer be accepted.
  • If you are taking IELTS for the following purposes, you do not need to pay GST:
    • Access to education ($330 GST-free)
    • Registration or licensing for a particular occupation ($330 GST-free)
    • Membership of a professional or trade association ($330 GST-free)
    • Employment ($330 GST-free)
    • Immigration – Skilled Migration for any of the above ($330 GST-free)

If you are taking the IELTS for any other purpose, including other categories of immigration, you will need to pay GST.

  • UNSW Global cannot accept cash payments.

Test Day Checklist

  • Check your test centre location.  We have two test venues; make sure you go to the correct one.
  • Arrive at the venue by 8.00 am (or 7:30am if you need to have your fingerprint and photo done at the test venue).  Candidate registration on the test day closes at 8.30 am.  Latecomers will not be allowed into the test room after this time.
  • During registration, you will be given a label with the details of your candidate number and your speaking test time.
  • Bring the valid (not expired) passport which you indicated on your application to the test.  This is the only form of identification that will be accepted on the test day.  If you do not have your valid passport, you cannot sit for the test.
  • If you have a new passport since registering for an IELTS test, you must present your new passport to an IELTS administrator at the UNSW Global Student Solutions Centre at least 3 days before the test date to ensure we have your new details on the test day.
  • Bring pencils, sharpeners and erasers for your answer sheet (and a clear plastic water bottle if you want to).  No other material will be allowed into the exam room.

Test results will be available 13 calendar days after the completion of your test, between 11.00 am and 1.00 pm.

  • Test results can be collected in person only from UNSW Institute of Languages, Level 1 223 Anzac Parade, Kensington.
  • To collect the results in person you must bring your original valid passport as identification.
  • If you do not collect your test results in person, they will be mailed later that day to the latest address we have for you.
  • If you feel that your test results are wrong, you can apply for an Enquiry on Results (EOR) within six weeks of your test date.  You will be charged a fee of AUD$176 for your enquiry, which will be refunded in full if your band score changes.
    • Note that IELTS markers follow strict assessment guidelines and are regularly monitored.  The testing process has the highest quality control procedures.

Where can I put my personal things on test day?

There is a bag room clearly marked where you should leave all personal items. All mobile phones should be switched off and placed in the bag room, which will be locked throughout the duration of the test. No responsibility will be taken for the loss of personal items on the test day.

You will be given a label with these details when you register on the test day. The details will also be listed on a notice board on the Ground Floor. You should check this notice board carefully.

Yes.  Please email the centre at ielts.enquiries@languages.unsw.edu.au for further information about applications from interstate candidates.

Can I cancel my test?

Can I cancel my test?

Yes. You need to go to the Student Solutions Centre located on level 1, 223 Anzac Parade, KENSINGTON. Bring your original, valid passport and original receipt, and complete the IELTS Request for Refund or Test Date Transfer Form. If you cancel five weeks or more prior to the test, you will receive a refund, less a cancellation fee of AUD$82.50. If you cancel within the five week period, you will not receive any refund.

You should either email us at ielts.enquiries@languages.unsw.edu.au or complete the Change of Address form which you will find on your desk on the test day.

Can I get a re-print of my results?

Can I get a re-print of my results?

No. You will receive only one copy of your results. However, if you complete the appropriate section on your application form, we can send up to five free copies to Government departments, approved professional organizations, employers or languages schools. We cannot send copies to relatives, immigration agents or education agents. AUD$20.00 will be charged for copies requested after the test and you must complete the Application for the Issue of Additional TRFs Form. If you want your results to be sent to any overseas institutions, you must provide addressed, pre-paid envelopes.

Yes, you can. You must complete an IELTS Enquiry on Results (EOR) form within six weeks of the test date. The fee is AUD$176 and you must also attach your original Test Result Form to the EOR form. It will take up to six weeks for the re-mark to be processed.

Preparation Courses

UNSW Institute of Languages offers both full-time and part-time IELTS preparation courses designed to thoroughly prepare you for success in the IELTS test.  Our courses are well recognised and our teachers are highly experienced and dedicated to preparing you for successful test outcomes.

  • Full-time intensive programs are available in five week terms throughout the year and cover each of the language areas included in IELTS.
  • The part-time and full-time course options both provide regular IELTS test practice and ongoing feedback in order to identify and work on your specific areas of need.

Practice Materials

The Official IELTS Practice Materials are available for purchase from UNSW Institute of Languages.  They are recommended for anyone who is unable to attend face-to-face classes and wants to improve their IELTS band score or test if their English is at the required level to take IELTS.  The Official IELTS Practice Materials are created by experienced IELTS materials writers and use materials approved by the IELTS partners: the British Council, Cambridge ESOL and IDP: IELTS Australia.

The materials consist of a book and a CD and include the following resources:

  • practice tests for Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing
  • answer sheets for Listening, Reading and Writing
  • answer keys for the practice Listening and Reading tests
  • transcripts of the Listening tests
  • sample candidate responses for Writing and Speaking tests, with examiner responses

Before you start

What you will need to register for the IELTS test online:

  • A scanned copy of valid passport pages (that expires after your IELTS test booking date) in an electronic format (e.g. .pdf)
  • A method of payment (VISA, Mastercard or Union Pay) to secure your booking.
  • A valid email address as a receipt for your transaction will be automatically emailed to you (please ensure that you enter the email address correctly)

Instructions

Registering for the IELTS test online:

Follow the following 6 easy steps to complete your online booking:

  1. Search for the available test dates and venues from the below dates. The dates are colour coded based on the availability of seats on that date.

    • Orange indicates that the booking date is almost full.
    • Yellow indicates that there are still some seats available but selling quickly.
    • Green indicates that there are many seats still available Click on a test date and venue that suits your requirements.
  2. Accept the IELTS Terms and Conditions.
  3. Fill in the IELTS online candidate registration form. Questions that have an asterisk (*) next to them are obligatory and you will not be able to continue if you do not answer these questions. You will need to upload a clearly legible scanned copy (or copies) of your passport including the pages containing your Passport number, name, date of birth, photo and Passport expiry date as well as the signature page.
  4. After you have checked your application details you will be taken to a secure webpage to enter your payment details.
  5. After your valid payment details have been accepted you will go to a page that will tell you that you have successfully paid for your IELTS test. On this page, you will find a .pdf file containing details about your test booking, your test venue and complete instructions regarding your test. It is recommended that you print this .pdf for your reference. A receipt will be emailed to the email address you provided in the booking process.
  6. You will then need to get your fingerprint and photo taken to complete your registration. You can choose from the following two options:
    • You can have your photo and fingerprint taken on the day of the IELTS test at the test venue prior to taking the test.
    • You can have your photo and fingerprint taken in advance at the Student Solutions Centre. The Student Solutions Centre is located on level 1, 223 Anzac Parade Kensington.

Please make sure that you bring your passport and booking payment receipt with you when you come to have your fingerprint and photo taken.
